Ocular Surface Disease Diagnosis & Treatment

Ocular surface disease is a group of conditions that affects the surface of the cornea and conjunctiva, which can cause discomfort, eye infections, and even vision loss. Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent further damage to your eyes and improve your overall eye health. At I-Care Optical in Tampa, Florida, we provide the best possible care and personalized treatment options for the following conditions:

Keratoconus

Keratoconus is a condition that affects the shape of the cornea, making it gradually become thinner and bulge out into a cone shape. It can cause vision distortion, sensitivity to light, and trouble wearing regular contact lenses. At I-Care Optical, our eye doctor is an expert in diagnosing and managing keratoconus. We use advanced imaging technology to accurately diagnose and monitor the progression of this condition. To treat this condition, we offer scleral contact lenses, which provide exceptional comfort and clear vision by covering the irregular cornea.

Corneal ulcers

Corneal ulcers are open sores on the surface of the cornea, usually caused by an infection or injury. These ulcers can be painful and may lead to vision loss if left untreated. At I-Care Optical, our eye care team has the knowledge and tools to diagnose and treat corneal ulcers effectively. Treatment often involves using eye drops with antibiotics or antifungal properties. We may also provide you with special contact lenses that protect your eyes and help them heal faster.

Recurrent corneal erosions

Recurrent corneal erosions happen when the outer layer of the cornea, known as the epithelium, keeps detaching from the tissue underneath. This can cause intense pain, redness, blurred vision, and sensitivity to light. To diagnose it, our doctor will carefully examine your cornea using special equipment. Treatment options include using lubricating eye drops, ointments, therapeutic contact lenses, and sometimes even surgical procedures to improve corneal adhesion.

Pink eye

Pink eye, or conjunctivitis, is a common condition where the conjunctiva, the thin clear tissue that covers the white part of the eye and lines the inside of the eyelids, gets inflamed. This can happen due to a viral or bacterial infection, allergies, or irritants. At I-Care Optical, we offer accurate diagnosis and management for pink eye. Treatment options may include medicated eye drops, cold compresses, and good eye hygiene practices to relieve symptoms and prevent the infection from spreading.
